I know firsthand the debilitating effect that fear of failure can have on even the most ambitious entrepreneurs. Because of this, I included a chapter on this crucial subject in my best-selling book “Give a Heck,” outlining useful tips for getting through this obstacle and accomplishing your objectives.
It’s not about the aim or goal. As motivational speaker Tony Robbins famously said, it’s about developing into the kind of person who can reach that objective.
Here are some life-lessons I’ve learned (still learning, to be honest):
1. Reframe Failure as Feedback: Fear of failure prevents many people from taking chances or attempting novel activities. However, failure is merely feedback that can help you develop and get better. Reframe failure as an opportunity to learn and modify your strategy rather than something to be avoided.
2. Adopt a growth attitude. People with a growth mindset think they can improve their skills with effort and commitment. This way of thinking will enable you to view obstacles as chances for learning and improvement rather than as limitations on your potential.
3. Act Despite Your Fear: When you’re taking on anything new or difficult, it’s normal to feel apprehensive. But acting in spite of your fear is the only way to get over it. Start small, take sensible risks, and gradually increase your level of confidence.
4. Concentrate on Your Why: Having a compelling rationale for why you want to accomplish a particular goal will keep you motivated and on track. To connect with your why and maintain your commitment to your objectives, consider your values, passions, and purpose.
Remember that overcoming your fear of failing is a common challenge that many successful individuals have gone through. You can develop the resilience and confidence required to accomplish your goals by redefining failure, adopting a growth mindset, acting despite your fear. Most importantly, keep your focus on your Why.
